SD1 - Maximizing the Resource Management Capabilities of Microsoft Project
This class will provide the attendee with an in depth understanding of the resource management capabilities of Microsoft Project and Microsoft Project Server 2007. The course will begin by providing a detailed presentation on the fundamentals of the resourcing engine of Microsoft Project, focusing on the practical, real-world benefits of using the tool.

Some previous knowledge of Microsoft Project is preferred, but not required.

Leveraging Enterprise custom fields to support your reporting needs

Working with generic resources

Using the “skills” capabilities of the Microsoft Project 2007

Accounting for administrative and “non-project” work in the system

Managing resource supply over time

Producing presentation-quality graphical resource reports in Excel

SD2 - High Impact Communication Skills – Essential Skills for Managing Success

The class will help participants focus on solutions to communication issues and opportunities.  Each unit models and practices sound learning and interactive approaches.

Communication Styles

To assess the dominant and secondary communication style of each participant using the DiSC Profile (to be completed during class)

To develop an understanding of the stress associated with different style types

To provide communication skills that encourage cooperation and minimize conflict

Emotional Intelligence
(Based on Daniel Goleman’s work)

To identify the 5 components of EI and the need for them

1. Self-Awareness—the ability to understand one’s own emotional make-up, and that of others, for better human relations

2. Self-Regulation—the ability to control disruptive moods and behaviors in order to maintain a psychologically safe work environment

3. Self-Motivation—the ability to stay focused and proactive, especially through tough times, demonstrating goal persistence to your followers

4. Empathy—the ability to relate to and understand another person from their perspective

5. Social Skills—the ability to build and maintain effective working relations by looking for opportunities for “Win-Wins” in the workplace

SD3 - Influencing and Negotiating Skills for the Project Manager
Project Managers frequently find themselves with the responsibility for project completion without the authority to manage the effort. Having the skills to effectively negotiate and influence decision making can mean the difference between success and failure. Through a collection of role plays, self-assessments and practice sessions, this course will provide participants with the tools needed to effectively work with stakeholders and manage situations without formal authority. The course provides participants with an understanding of the dynamics of influencing people, how to expand their sphere of influence, how to negotiate with confidence and the opportunity to practice a variety of tools and techniques. SD4 - Successful Management Techniques in a Matrix Organization
Delivering cross-departmental projects can be a challenge no matter how your company is organized. In matrix organizations-which are becoming more and more popular-the challenges often seem overwhelming. In this class, you'll learn best practices to deal with those challenges and improve your ability to deliver projects, negotiate for resources, influence others, and delegate project tasks. You'll also learn techniques for managing team members who do not normally report to you, including resolving conflict and providing performance feedback.
